Directing Your Contribution
The United Way Community Campaign provides donors the opportunity to
direct their gift to the causes that are important to them. When you or your
co-workers fill out a pledge form, whether online or on paper, you control
where your contribution goes and how it will be used to help change lives
and improve community conditions. The following ways to direct gifts
correspond with those indicated on the pledge form:
When you choose Community Investment, you can
rest assured that you’re getting the most out of every dollar. Community
Investment operates on the principle that together we can do the most
good: helping children enter kindergarten ready to learn and succeed in
school, helping families become more financially stable, coping with
illness, providing a safety net for those in need—and so much more.
Community Investment funded programs are
monitored by trained volunteers who ensure that dollars are well-spent to
produce real results and that effective management, governance, and
financial accountability standards are upheld. Community Investment
dollars support local programs with a proven record of ensuring that
children are successful, that families are strong and healthy and that a
safety net of services are provided for those in need.
Ensuring Children Are Successful. Helping
children get ready for kindergarten and youth achieve their potential
through education. Working with parents, child care providers, towns and
schools to ensure that all children are ready to succeed in school so that
they graduate well-prepared for the workplace.
Strengthening Families. Building family
financial stability and independence by improving job skills that increase
earning potential; developing affordable housing; and promoting access to
income supports. Helping families learn to budget and save for things such
as better housing, transportation or education.
Safety Net of Services. Meeting basic
needs to help people in crisis get back on their feet with food, shelter,
counseling and disaster response. Supporting the elderly and those with
mental or physical health needs through home health and respite care.
Neighborhood Arts and Heritage. Enriching
and celebrating our community’s diversity through arts and culture programs
in collaboration with the Greater Hartford Arts Council and other community
organizations.
