Special Message from the Campaign Chairman
Douglas G. Elliot
October 16, 2008
Dear Friends,
Despite the troubling news reports about the
economy, our community has never let down people who
need help. I’m confident that this trend will
continue. However, needs are increasing, including
those of our neighbors, our friends and our
relatives.
The United Way Community Campaign is an
incredibly effective way of helping people. We are
at the midway point, and while there have been many
increased gifts, overall results are lagging behind
the pace needed to reach this year’s goal of $28.4
million.
But the Community Campaign is about more than a
number, it’s about people: those who need help and
those who have the capacity, and the heart, to give
help. As significant as $28.4 million is, in the
end, there’s only one number that matters, the
number one...the one child, one grandmother, one
family, one neighbor, all helped as a result of your
one contribution.
I’m increasing my gift and I encourage you to do
the same. If you already have given through the
United Way Community Campaign, thank you. If you
haven’t, our community needs you now more than ever.
We have always embraced those less fortunate by
offering a hand up. This time, we just need to open
our arms a little wider.
Sincerely,
Doug Elliot
Chairman, 2008 United Way Community Campaign
P.S. If everyone who gave last year were to increase
their contribution by just $1.00 per week, we’d
raise another $3.1 million for our community. To
make a contribution, please go to
