Special Message from the Campaign Chairman
Douglas G. Elliot
November 19, 2008
Dear Friends,
Once again you have proved that even in these
turbulent times our community is one that steps up
to the plate and reaches out to people in need. I am
so honored and grateful to announce that this year’s
campaign has raised a record-setting $28,156,916.
This is truly an outstanding accomplishment.
But the United Way Community Campaign is about
more than a number, it’s about people: those who
need help and those who have the capacity, and the
heart, to give help. As significant as $28,156,916
is, in the end, the number that matters is the
number one... the one child, one grandmother, one
family, one neighbor, all helped as a result of your
one contribution.
We have always embraced those less fortunate by
offering a helping hand. And, amidst these difficult
times, we did it once again by opening our arms a
little wider. I couldn’t be any more thankful to
everyone who played a role in making this community
campaign the most successful one ever – especially
with needs rising. The spirit of giving has never
been stronger in our community. Thanks for being an
important part of it.
Sincerely,
Doug Elliot
Chairman, 2008 United Way Community Campaign
