Health and Safety Net
What We're Doing
United Way supports a safety net of services to help ensure that everyone in central and northeastern Connecticut has access to:
- Emergency and crisis services such as shelter and food;
- Disaster services;
- Mental and physical health services such as counseling and home health care;
- Services for those with intellectual disabilities; and
- Information and referral through United Way's free 2-1-1 helpline.
Results
In 2010, thanks to your contributions:
- Almost 25,000 of our neighbors received a warm meal or a bag of groceries.
- More than 4,000 local women received free mammograms.
- More than 1,200 people in our region got help during disasters such as fires or floods.
- Nearly 800 people reduced their dependency on drugs or alcohol.
- Nearly 600 of our neighbors with intellectual disabilities learned skills to help them live independently.
