Home ›News Alert: Visit 2-1-1 for Information on Open Gas Stations, Pharmacies
A message from United Way of Connecticut, which runs the 2-1-1 call center:
United Way 2-1-1 has worked with a number of state agencies to post and regularly update information on emergency shelter and warming center openings, gas stations and pharmacies, and other information.
In the wake of the October snowstorm, United Way 2-1-1 has handled a record number of calls. On October 31, the call center handled approximately 2,600 calls, which is believed to be the highest single day total in its history. They have also registered more than 5,000 web hits since the beginning of the storm. The area around United Way of Connecticut’s and the 2-1-1 call center lost power on Saturday afternoon and 2-1-1 was able to continue uninterrupted because of a back-up generator.
2-1-1 open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Simply dial 2-1-1 or visit www.211ct.org. United Way 2-1-1 is supported by your gifts to United Way Community Investment.
URGENT UPDATE: SHELTER VOLUNTEERS NEEDED NOW!
Thousands of Hartford area residents are overflowing 30+ local shelters. Power restoration is under way, but many homes remain cold and shelter volunteers are nearing exhaustion. Your community needs you today!
Please consider volunteering for shift work in our shelters. Volunteers are needed for all shifts - especially the evening hours (6 p.m. to midnight) when demand is greatest, and on the weekends. Your work may include helping with food distribution, helping frail and elderly people bathe and get around, and being there to listen. No special skills are needed. All volunteers will be screened.
To volunteer, please call the Capitol Region Regional Coordination Center at 860-647-5699, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Thank you for Living United!
