Avon: Free Help to Apply for Food Assistance

Are you struggling to make ends meet? Recent changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly food stamps) mean that you may qualify for help even if you haven't in the past. SNAP works like a debit card, so you have privacy at the grocery store.

Free SNAP application assistance will be available on Tuesday, October 18th from 1PM to 4PM at the Avon Senior Center located at 635 West Avon Road in Avon.

Social Services Bus Coming to Avon May 3 and Canton May 10

Need help with food, prescriptions, health insurance or health and human services? Connecticut’s “Rx Express” bus is coming to Avon and Canton during the month of May, thanks to Avon United Way and the Avon and Canton town Social Services departments. This volunteer-led project is part of United Way's work to help local people make ends meet.

Avon, Canton United Ways Announce Merger

Avon United Way and Canton United Way have joined forces to serve their respective towns as a single entity known as Avon-Canton United Way. Their decision to merge was approved by the United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut board of directors at its June meeting.
