Recognizing Day of Caring Volunteers

We know you will want to thank the volunteers who participated in United Way Day of Caring.  Here are some ideas from past coordinators on how they thanked their volunteers. In all mentions of this great community event, please be sure to use the name United Way Day of Caring, just as it’s written here. And let us be the first to thank you for helping to publicize this great event!

  • Convene volunteers soon after United Way Day of Caring. In addition to thanking them, encourage volunteers to reflect on what they accomplished.
  • Send a personal thank-you note to the volunteers upon returning to work.
  • Send a thank-you note or email to the workplace’s CEO to thank him/her for encouraging employees to volunteer and for allowing you to participate in United Way Day of Caring.
  • Highlight your volunteer team on your website and in your workplace newsletter.
  • Take “before and after” pictures to display at your workplace or share them with your employees at a workplace staff meeting.
  • Share pictures of the volunteers on a public bulletin board in your lunchroom, break room or waiting area. Put them on your workplace’s intranet site, too. Please share any published items with the United Wayfor our records.
  • Remember to have your employees complete their Volunteer Raffle Entry Card when they receive their United Way Day of Caring t-shirt. Everyone who completes their entry card will be entered into a drawing at the United Way Community Campaign Victory Celebration. Entry cards must be turned in by the end of September to be entered into the drawing.
  • Prepare an informational packet about the work your employees do to share with other employees or potential employees.
  • A United Way Day of Caring evaluation survey will be available in September, and we will use your ideas, comments and suggestions in future years. If you have any other recognition ideas or feedback, please email Libby Richardson.

If you have any further questions, please email United Way Day of Caring project manager Libby Richardson or call (860) 493-1109.
